报告题目:In situation study of sulfide minerals during leaching process

报告人概况:Dr Miao Chen joined CSIRO as a CSIRO OCE Science Leader in 2007. Currently she leads a multidisciplinary team in research to develop robust chemical sensors for in situ and on line monitoring of mineral processing and mining site environments. Dr Chen has also developed a keen interest in the area of the fundamental issues related to low grade ore processing and resource recovery from mine waste and mining site environmental remediation. She has extensive experience on using Synchrotron technology to in situ study of fundamentals of solid‐liquid interfacial chemistry. Dr Chen has 137 peer reviewed journal papers published, with an H index of 26 (Web of Science). She also holds 17 patents. Her current research interests are:
? Chemical sensing technology, solid‐state electrochemical sensors for industrial environmental application;
? in situ characterization of surface and interfacial reactions, including Synchrotron techniques to map and analyse the chemical species of elements during mineral processing;
? Electrochemistry and physical chemistry of mineral processing;
? Fundamentals of mineral‐solution (microbe) interaction (mechanism and kinetics studies, including with synchrotron techniques);
? Comprehensive utilisation of complex and low grade ore, processing of mining tailings and waste material, acid mine drainage management and remediation.
? Resource recovery from waste and environmental remediation.
报告概况:To improve the efficiency of sustainable recovery of valuable resources (such as copper, gold, uranium), advanced technologies of electrochemistry, surface chemistry and materials characterization, such as Synchrotron X ray-absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and in situ X-ray Diffraction (XRD) have been employed to investigate the interactions between microbes and sulfide minerals in situ to gain a detailed understanding of the chemical reaction mechanisms operating in leaching process. It has been demonstrated that alternating current Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (ac-SECM) allows for straightforward characterization of sulfide mineral samples in aqueous solution. With the technology localized electrochemical properties of the mineral surface including the surface current mapping can be achieved. Continuous real-time information on leaching solution is critical to understand both point source and non-point source impacts. For this purpose, robust, sensitive chemical sensors have been developed to make continuous, periodic or event-driven measurements without the need for frequent human intervention into this process which is taking place under extreme conditions.
